Trace the historical development of the civil rights movements in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries including the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th amendments and our original question dealing with the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. Evaluate constitutional change in terms of strict construction versus judicial interpretation.

Describe the role of political organizations that promoted civil rights, including ones from African Americans, Chicano, American Indian and Women’s and other civil rights movements.

Identify the roles of significant leaders who supported various rights movements including Martin Luther Jr., Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, Hector P. Garcia, and Betty Friedan.

Compare and contrast the approach taken by some civil rights groups such as the Black Panthers, the Brown Movement and the non violent approach of Martin Luther King using Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” and “Letters from a Birmingham Jail” versus Corky Gonzales’ “I am Joaquin.”
